ARCURI TO SPEAK AT ROME CHAMBER ENERGY FORUM

October 21, 2008

Washington, DC -- U.S. Representative Michael A. Arcuri (D-Utica) will participate in the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce’s Energy Forum tomorrow, Wednesday, October 22nd at 7am at the Beeches in Rome.

Energy Forum

Time:   7:00am
Date:   Wednesday, October 22nd
Location: The Beeches, 7900 Turin Rd., Rome, NY
Contact:  William K. Guglielmo, (315) 337-1700

Arcuri will address steps he has taken in Congress to bring down local energy costs and help area businesses create new “green” jobs. He will highlight comprehensive energy legislation, passed by the House of Representatives, to make America energy independent and bring down gas prices.

Specifically, the legislation would expand land available for oil drilling by ending the current off-shore drilling moratorium and permitting drilling off-shore for states that offer leases to oil companies - opening up nearly 80% more off-shore areas for oil and gas drilling. It would also repeal tax break for oil companies and require oil companies to pay royalties already owed to taxpayers. Royalty payments would be invested in developing alternative energy sources - creating millions of new American “green” jobs.
