ARCURI ANNOUNCES FEDERAL GRANTS FOR FRANKFORT AND WEST ONEONTA FIRE DEPARTMENTS

December 31, 2008

Washington, DC -- U.S. Rep. Michael A. Arcuri (D-Utica) today announced $95,957 for the Frankfort Fire Department and $34,414 for the West Oneonta Fire District through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program for operations and safety enhancements.

“All homeland security begins with our local fire departments,” said Arcuri, a member of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus. “That is why I am pleased to announce these federal grants to help Frankfort and West Oneonta continue performing the important work they do so well.”

The West Oneonta Fire District will use funds to purchase new turnout gear, including fire jackets, pants, gloves, and other protective equipment critical for fighting fires. The Frankfort Fire Department will use funds to also purchase new turnout gear, and in addition, attain an emergency generator and install a new ventilation system for idling fire trucks in the station.

The AFG program provides funds to fire departments, emergency response personnel and first responders to protect the health and safety of workers and local citizens. Since 2004, the program has granted nearly $2.2 billion nationwide.
