Brief Biography for Introducing Congressman Arcuri

Congressman Michael Arcuri

Since taking office in January 2007, Congressman Arcuri has been fighting for the families, small businesses, seniors and farmers of the 24th Congressional District. Congressman Arcuri serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he has worked to bring resources back to Upstate New York to build the local economy to create good-paying jobs. He introduced bipartisan legislation – which is now law – to create a Northern Border Economic Development Commission, to allocate $40 million in job creation and economic development resources to regions like ours. Since taking office, Congressman Arcuri has also championed legislation that will invest in alternative energy technology to bring consumer costs down and grow our local economy, including the historic and bipartisan Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.

To help small business owners and families succeed, Congressman Arcuri also led the charge in support of the Small Business Tax Relief Act, which would provide $1.3 billion in tax relief for small businesses and family farms - the first tax relief bill considered in the 110th Congress. Since taking office, he has voted 14 times for tax relief for working families and small businesses. Looking ahead to future generations, Congressman Arcuri is also working to ensure that our children have the educational opportunities they need to succeed in a global economy. Congressman Arcuri was an original co-sponsor of the College Student Relief Act that lowers interest rates on subsidized student loans and he voted to increase Pell Grants and expand educational benefits for veterans.

Congressman Arcuri is also a member of the House Rules Committee, which oversees nearly all legislation brought before the House. He was born and raised in Utica, New York, and where he lives with his wife, Sabrina, and their three children.
