Research Statement:

Our research focuses on the structure determination of integral membrane proteins, with emphasis on ligand recognition, transmembrane signalling, and transport of small and large molecules. We study bacterial outer membrane proteins as possible vaccine targets and bacterial inner membrane proteins as model systems for cellular processes such as nutrient transport. Methods used include heterologous overexpression of membrane proteins, biochemical characterisation, crystallisation, and structure determination by X-ray crystallography.
