Chief of Staff Training: How to Hire Effectively


On January 26, CMF hosted the first of two trainings for Chiefs of Staff and Staff Directors focused on "The "A" Method for Hiring: Tools for Effective and Accurate Hiring." They are facilitated by Rodgers Palmer, a principal at ghSMART, whose mission is to use expertise in human behavior to build valuable companies. The first session focused on profiling positions and recruiting talent. In both session, Chiefs learn how to:

  • Separate the right candidates from the wrong ones
  • Improve the accuracy, reliability, and speed in hiring the best staff
  • Make your hiring process more objective and help everyone agree to the right decision

CMF Offers Solutions to Communications Breakdowns between Citizens and Congress

After nearly 10 years of research, outreach, and study of the communications between citizens and Congress, CMF released the culminating report, Communicating with Congress: Recommendations for Improving the Democratic Dialogue, with recommendations for all stakeholders and suggested improvements to the structure and processes for managing congressional communications.

Setting Course for the 111th Congress

Now in its 11th edition, Setting Course is a comprehensive management guide to setting up and managing a congressional office.

It guides Members-elect through the strategic decisions they must make in their first 90 days while providing veterans offices ways to improve common congressional officefunctions. 

 


CMF Welcomes New Members of Congress and Staff


On November 19, CMF hosted a day-long workshop for the Aides of Members-elect: "Navigating the First 90 Days." It focused on the November-January transition to Congress and included expert panels of Freshman and Sophomore Chiefs of Staff.


LD Training: Creating an Excellent Team


On December 12, CMF hosted a training session exclusively for House Legislative Directors that covered:

  • Understanding what makes a great team
  • Identifying your team's strengths and weaknesses
  • Making your team productive and accountable
  • Building trust, respect, and open communication
