Barrett Comments on start of 111th Congress - Announces Committee Assignments

Barrett Comments on start of 111th Congress;
Announces Committee Assignments

Washington, DC – Congressman Gresham Barrett (SC, 3) began his fourth term in Congress as he was sworn in yesterday afternoon as a Member of the 111th Congress.

“As we begin the 111th Congress our nation is facing very serious challenges.  Hard working Americans are struggling to pay their bills; some are facing the possibility of losing their home, or job, or in some cases both.  While some work has been done to address the short-term crisis there is a lot of work ahead to put in place long-term solutions.

“I look forward to jumping right in and helping to develop long-term solutions to our current economic situation.  We need to get out of the bailout business and back to the business of promoting an environment that will allow the private sector and small businesses, which are the engine of job creation, to grow.

“Americans are anxious and understandably so.  In addition to the domestic challenges of the economy, energy, health care, social security and medicare, we remain a nation at war.  Our military men and women have made great progress and they are winning, but we must remain committed to ensuring they have all the tools and resources they need to come home soon and do so in victory.”

During the 111th Congress Congressman Barrett will serve on the Office of Standard of Official Conduct (Ethics Committee) and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.  In addition, he will continue to serve as a member of the House Committee on Financial Services, the one committee he has served on since day one.
