April 7-9, 2009 Sponsored by: Perhaps the most compelling application of risk analysis is the realm of national security, where risk mitigation resources are scarce, the analysis of alternative scenarios is extremely challenging, and an uninformed strategy can have catastrophic consequences. The Decision Applications Division and the Center for Nonlinear Studies of Los Alamos National Laboratory are pleased to announce the fourth annual symposium on the theory and application of risk analysis to homeland security and defense. This event brings together a broad range of theoreticians, computer modelers, analysts, domain experts, and decision makers from academia, industry, government, and the national laboratories. They meet to share their knowledge and ideas at a unique forum focused on the nation’s highest priority security threats. The 2009 Risk Symposium will be held at the just opened Hilton Buffalo Thunder Resort in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The meeting will include several plenary speakers, as well as focused lecture and poster sessions. We are accepting abstracts in the areas of:
Travel Grants A limited number of travel grants are available to assist students and post-doctoral researchers making presentations at the conference. This grant consists of waived registration and $500 toward travel or hotel expenses. More information is available in the registration page. Satellite Classified Meeting This year, there will be a satellite meeting at Los Alamos National Laboratory to permit discussions in a classified forum. This meeting will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Transportation will be provided between venues.
