CALFIRE reports that efforts are continuing to fight the lightning caused fires within state responsibility area. The largest fire is in the Paradise Ridge area northeast of Shelter Cove. This fire remains at an estimated 500 acres in steep terrain with heavy fuels. Engines, handcrews, dozers, and helicopters will continue working on this fire today. Smoke from this fire is drifting into the Shelter Cove area. It is estimated that this fire is 15% contained. A fireline is being constructed using dozers and handcrews to stop the fire from advancing further to the south toward the Shelter Cove area. No evacuation orders have been issued at this time.

The fire burning in Humboldt Redwoods State Park near High Rock north of Weott has grown slightly to 45 acres and is 70% contained. The fire in Carson Creek north of Redcrest is 95% contained and has increased to 66 acres. The 30 acre fire burning in Bear Creek northwest of Redcrest is 90% contained. The 30 acre Williams Fire is in very steep terrain adjacent to the Klamath River with 95% containment. The Lone Pine Fire in the Island Montain area of southern Humboldt County is 10 acres with 25% containment. A 5 acre fire in Pecwan is 50% contained. Firefighting efforts have been making significant progress throughout the Humboldt-Del Norte Unit.

CALFIRE currrently has 72 engines, 15 handcrews, 1 airtankers, 7 helicopters, 11 water tenders, 4 dozers, and a total of 611 personnel assigned to the fires at this time.

Six Rivers National Forest Current Fire Information:

There are 53 confirmed fires on all four Ranger Districts within the Six Rivers National Forest. Twenty seven of these fires have been contained or controlled. All but nine fires are staffed.

  • Smith River National Recreation Area
    • Total fires: 2
    • Blue Fire at 80 acres is burning in the Crescent City Fork of Blue Creek near the Siskiyou Wilderness boundary and is currently inaccessible. A type 2 handcrew has been assigned to the fire. The fire is burning in mixed conifer with dense underbrush on steep sleeps. Travel on roads in the area of the Blue Fire is restricted to facilitate public safety and movement of fire suppression resources.
    • Goose Fire, located three miles east of the Red Mountain Lookout, has been contained at five acres. This fire is has been contained.
  • Orleans Ranger District
    • Total fires: 11
    • 3 fires have been contained, 4 fires not staffed
    • Mill Fire is 100 acres. The ORCA Type 2 Team is taking over this fire with fires on the Klamath National Forest.
  • Lower Trinity Ranger District
    • Total fires: 10
    • 4 fires have been contained
    • All fires staffed or patrolled except one
    • The Hells Half Complex is comprised of six fires, on Sims Mountain (100 acres) and the Half Fire (20 Acres). A Type II Incident Management Team has been order to manage this 120 acre complex
    • Packsaddle Fire is 18 acres and crews have a good handle on the fire.
  • Mad River Ranger District
    • Total fires: 30
    • 20 of these fires are 100% contained.
    • Travis Fire - 600+ acres, 0% contained.
    • Nielson Fire - 40 acres, 0% contained.
    • Lassic Fire - 18 acres, 30% contained.
    • Swim Fire - 15-20 acres, 0% contained.
    • Van Horn Fire – 25-30 acres, 0% contained.
    • Over 300 emergency personnel and equipment are working to suppress these fires.

There are no closures due to the fires, but they may be needed in the future as fire conditions change.
