On Monday August 27, 2007, Ramon Orozco-Rivera, of Mexico, was arrested on the Six Rivers National Forest near Willow Creek for cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana for sales. The arrest was made after law enforcement officers from the U.S. Forest Service and Trinity County Sheriff's Department entered into the marijuana garden on Monday morning and found Ramon Orozco-Rivera in the marijuana garden which contained 5,165 marijuana plants. Also found within the marijuana garden were two loaded pistols and a loaded rifle. The marijuana garden is suspected to be part of a larger Drug Trafficking Organization operating within the Six Rivers National Forest. Orozco-Rivera is suspected to be an undocumented alien from Mexico and is being charged with immigration violations in addition to the cultivation of marijuana.

A Special Agent from the U.S. Forest Service who was involved in Monday's arrest said, "These Drug Trafficking Organizations are here in our National Forests and becoming more and more frequent."

Marijuana cultivation on the National Forest by these Drug Trafficking Organizations within Trinity and Humboldt Counties has greatly increased this summer and is reflected in the record number of marijuana plants being eradicated in both counties.

The public is reminded while visiting any of your National Forests and marijuana cultivation activities are located, do not contact suspects, do not enter into the garden, leave the area immediately and notify your local county or Forest Service law enforcement officials immediately.
