Due to the recent rains and with more predicted for the weekend, Fish Lake Campground on the Orleans Ranger District and East Fork Campground on the Lower Trinity Ranger District, Six Rivers National Forest, will not open for Memorial Day weekend according to Recreation Officer Jean Hawthorne.

"While we realize these are two popular camping areas, the ground is still too wet and the risk of spreading Port-Orford cedar root disease spores is too great to be able to open these campgrounds at this time," Hawthorne said. "Other Forest campgrounds are open so people can make plans for other sites if they still plan to camp this weekend. We will provide updates as to when they are dry enough to open when the risk for POC infestation is low."

Fifteen other Six Rivers National Forest campgrounds are open. E-Ne-Nuck Campground on the Orleans Ranger District is scheduled to open on June 23. Mad River Campground is closed this season due to road work adjacent to the campground and work inside the campground.

Information about the Six Rivers National Forest campgrounds is on the website at www.fs.fed.us/r5/sixrivers/recreation.
