The Orleans Ranger District of the Six Rivers National Forest announced today that two hardwood decks are now posted for personal firewood use on the Hazel Timber Sale off Red Cap Road.

"I am pleased that we can finally make a portion of the hardwoods available firewood use." said Bill Rice, Orleans District Ranger. "When the sale is finally completed, over 300 cords of hardwoods will be available for personal firewood use at seven locations in the sale area."

"We ask that people be very careful, however, when cutting on these hardwood decks because parking is limited and some logs are decked fairly high," said Rice.

"You will need a four-wheel drive vehicle to access one of the decks," said Rice.

Maps of the deck locations are available at the Orleans District Office. The office will be open on two Saturdays, December 10 and 17, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to sell firewood permits and Christmas tree tags.

For more information, call Orleans District Ranger Bill Rice at (530) 627-3291.
