Pelosi Statement on International Summit to Address Global Financial Crisis
Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today after the White House announced that the President will host a summit with international leaders on November 15 to address the global financial crisis. In an October 9, 2008 letter, Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid had urged the President to take a leadership role in bringing world leaders together on this issue:
“I am pleased by the President’s decision to convene the leaders of the largest economies in the world to address the global financial crisis. In this time of global economic turmoil, it is essential for the United States to exercise the strong leadership expected by the American people and the world.
“Respecting each country’s political and economic sovereignty, we must work with the international community on concerted efforts to promote global economic stability. I am hopeful that the upcoming summit will produce decisive actions that will strengthen the world’s financial markets, free up the flow of capital and credit, and restore economic growth.”
