Information for Consumers

Medical device is a general term for a piece of equipment that is used for a medical purpose. Medical devices can be instruments, tools, machines, implants, diagnostic tests, or software systems. They are used to diagnose, treat, monitor, or prevent diseases and other medical conditions. Some medical devices are very simple, such as thermometers, bandages, and pregnancy tests. Others are very complicated such as pacemakers, MRI machines, and hip implants.
