Bile Acid Sequestrants

Description

This group of medicines is known as Bile Acid Sequestrants, which are used in the treatment of high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia). These agents work by binding bile acid to form an insoluble complex which is eliminated via feces. This increases the fecal loss bile acid-bound low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol These agents may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Welchol® (Colesevalam)
Colestid® (Colestipol)

Bile Acid Sequestrants are available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage forms:
