VIDEO NEWS RELEASE (VNR) OF THE SLEEP WELL. DO WELL.
STAR SLEEPER CAMPAIGN
BACK TO SCHOOL 2002 INITIATIVE TRANSCRIPT

Starting a new school year means more than buying pencils and backpacks. To prepare your kids for school, include adequate nighttime sleep on your "back to school" list. Sleep experts at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute recommend that children get at least nine hours of sleep each night on a regular basis for their health and safety and do their best in and out of the classroom. That's the message from NHLBI's Sleep Well. Do Well. Star Sleeper Campaign.

Mother: And make sure you turn off the light now.

Child: OK

We all know as parents and pediatricians that doing well in school is important, that the three "R's" are important. We don't talk, emphasize the "S", for sleep. That in order to do well with the three "R's" one needs to be getting a healthy night's sleep.

To help parents and kids get a strong start this school year NHLBI is launching the How I Get a Heap of Sleep contest. Kids can show off their sleep know how by sending Garfield, spokescat for the campaign, a list of three things they do each night to get a good night's sleep, and why. For contest entry forms as well as information, fun games with Garfield, and important sleep messages, visit the Sleep Well. Do Well. Star Sleeper Campaign Web site.

Garfield: Hello, I'm Captain Garfield and I need your help.
