Polk County is located in northwest Wisconsin.  Originally part of the Northwest Territory, Polk County was created in 1853 from St. Croix County.  The county was named in honor of President James K. Polk, our 11th President. 

 

The county seat is Balsam Lake.

 

Population:    43,270 (2003 estimate)

Land Area:     917 square miles
