SUBJECT: STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING ON RES PROGRAMS, PERFORMANCE, AND PLANS, 1:00 P.M., TUESDAY, APRIL 17, 2007, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)

The Commission was briefed by the NRC staff on accomplishments, challenges, and plans including forward-looking research in the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research.

The staff should inform the Commission if licensees or others are using the human performance and reliability tool kit that the Office of Federal and State Materials and Environmental Management Programs is currently using for training NRC staff.

The staff should provide the results of Sandia's analysis of offsite mitigation strategies to the Commission.

The staff should provide to the Commission a process for selecting colleges and universities to establish a pipeline of students in critical skill areas including digital I&C.

The staff should keep the Commission informed of its plans for conducting a workshop on possible approaches for establishing an integrated digital instrumentation and controls (I&C) test facility and its schedule for issuing a paper to the Commission on its options and recommended approach.
