SUBJECT:	STAFF REQUIREMENTS - MEETING WITH THE FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISSION (FERC) ON GRID RELIABILITY, 1:30 P.M., TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, 2007, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)

The Commission met with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in a joint meeting on electric grid reliability and its impact on operating reactors and anticipated new reactors. The Commissioners were briefed by a panel including NRC staff and representatives from FERC, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and the Department of Energy (DOE).

The NRC staff should coordinate with NERC staff, the utilities, and other stakeholders to plan a workshop on the integration of NRC combined license process and transmission issues, including planning and expectations going forward.

The NRC staff should meet with FERC staff and NERC staff to share basic approaches and lessons learned regarding operating experience programs including national and international monitoring, data collection, review, and communication.
