The Commission was briefed by the NRC staff on NRC compliance with the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) and information technology modernization.
As a follow-up to the meeting, the staff should:

Expand the capability for issuing 1,000 BlackBerrys before mid-2009. The Commission should be advised of any challenges, including resources, funding, and infrastructure to meet this schedule. The staff should also provide an update on implementing PIN-to-PIN communications capability.

Develop a plan to centralize the management of laptops in the agency to ensure security, rather than individual offices purchasing laptops with Government credit cards.
