IN RESPONSE, PLEASE April 16, 2008
The Commission met jointly with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on grid reliability and cyber security. The Commissioners were briefed by FERC staff, NRC staff and a representative of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). The staff should share lessons learned from its experience with the Department of Homeland Security’s Comprehensive Reviews for the nuclear sector with FERC staff to assist them in analysis of the electrical grid as a critical asset. The staff should also share experience with the development of enforcement policy and practice as requested by FERC. The staff should participate in the Florida blackout lessons learned. The staff should continue working with FERC on Critical Infrastructure Protection activities related to continuity of power for nuclear power plants.Both Commissions agree that periodic joint meetings have enhanced cooperation between the two agencies and they look forward to future meetings.
