| SUBJECT: | STAFF REQUIREMENTS - MEETING WITH KOREAN PENINSULA ENERGY DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION (KEDO) AND STATE DEPARTMENT, 1:00 P.M., TUESDAY, JUNE 13, 2000, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE) |
The Commission was briefed by representatives from the State Department and the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) on the Agreed Framework and its supporting agreement between KEDO and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
In addition, the Department of State agreed to provide the Commission with possible impacts regarding NRC's potential cooperation with North Korea on nuclear safety matters should the bill H.R. 4251(Congressional Oversight of Nuclear Transfers to North Korea Act of 2000) be passed into law. Staff should coordinate with the Department of State and inform the Commission on this matter.
