ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE) |
The
Commission was briefed by the Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste (ACNW). The
Commission appreciates the expert technical advice the Committee provides.
The Committee should continue to follow closely the revision of the International
Commission on Radiological Protection’s (ICRP’s) standards. The
Commission anticipates ACNW’s review of NRC’s proposed rulemaking
on the control of solid materials. Additionally, the Commission looks forward
to the Committee’s white paper on its approach to addressing low-level
radioactive waste issues. The Committee should consider, moving low-level waste
issues to a tier one priority if a specific need arises requiring Agency action.
ACNW should provide feedback to the Commission, as appropriate, on these and
other salient issues, including waste incidental to reprocessing.
