STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING ON NMSS PROGRAMS, PERFORMANCE, AND PLANS - MATERIALS SAFETY, 10 A.M., MONDAY, MARCH 7, 2005, COMMISSIONERS’ CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE) |
The Commission was briefed by the NRC staff on the materials safety programs, performance, and plans in the Office of Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards (NMSS). The Commission commended the staff for its achievements, particularly in the area of materials security. The staff should keep the Commission informed in a timely manner of significant issues that may be delayed because of higher priority being assigned to security areas or any other area. Delays in these other programs should be planned and not subject to unintended consequences.
The staff should provide the Commission a technical summary of the web-based materials licensing system now in development and its integration with the national source tracking system. This may be accomplished by briefing the Commission Technical Assistants or individual Commissioners, if requested. The staff should keep the Commission informed of any significant changes in the current schedule for implementing these systems and the associated rulemaking.
