The Commission was briefed by the Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste
(ACNW) on the following topics:
- ACNW Chairman's Report
- ACNW Priorities and Future Review Plans
- Working Groups (Past and Future)
- Public Outreach
- ACNW Role in Yucca Mountain License Application
- Key Technical Issue Status and Pathway to Closure
- High-Level Waste Risk Insights
- Total System Performance Assessment for Yucca Mountain
- Performance Confirmation for Yucca Mountain
The Commission noted their appreciation for the ACNW's work.
The members of the ACNW, the Center for Nuclear Waste Regulatory Analyses,
and the NRC staff frequently make presentations on the progress of Yucca
Mountain. These speeches or presentations are currently reviewed by OGC
prior to delivery to ensure they do not raise new policy issues. As we
get closer to an actual license application, and especially once the application
is received and hearing contentions are identified, OGC will need to be
more diligent in monitoring the speeches for potential hearing implications.
