SUBJECT: STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING ON THE STATUS OF OCFO PROGRAMS, PERFORMANCE, AND PLANS, 10:00 A.M., TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2003, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)

The Commission was briefed by the Chief Financial Officer on the status of OCFO programs, performance, and plans.

The Commission requested a chart of the carryover funds separating those attributable to homeland security activities from other activities.

In future presentations, the CFO should make clear that funds were budgeted for safeguards and security prior to September 11, 2001.

The CFO should provide progress reports on addressing areas for improvement as a result of the Inspector General's survey of safety culture and climate at the NRC.

The CFO should provide additional details on the cost-cutting activities undertaken by the OCFO to improve efficiencies within the office no later than with submission of the FY 2005 budget.

The staff should provide an estimate of the cost to operate a baseline national materials program in the case where all States become Agreement States and NRC was left with regulating Federal facilities, rulemaking and other baseline activities.
