Biosketch:
LCDR Helen Hunter serves as a Grants Management Specialist in the Grants Management Branch within the Division of Extramural Activities. Her portfolio includes a variety of grant mechanisms under the NIDDK Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolic Diseases (DEM). Prior to NIDDK, LCDR Hunter served over four years as a program analyst in the Office of Minority Health/Office of Public Health and Science/Office of the Secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services. In this capacity, she was a project officer on grants and cooperative agreements relating to specific health disparities, cultural competency, and healthcare workforce diversity. As a commissioned officer, LCDR Hunter is active in a variety of Public Health Service (PHS) committees and was deployed for hurricane missions in 2004 in 2005. Before her entrance into the Federal government, her work experiences involved serving as a project manager for a grant-writing technical assistance center for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other minority institutions of higher education; a health educator with the DC Department of Health; and a research assistant at Johns Hopkins University. LCDR Hunter holds a B.S.P.H. in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Health Science in Health Policy and Management from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.
