Corrections Made to the New Jackson-Klamath Winter Trails Guide

Klamath Falls, OR – The U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) are providing a free correction sheet to fix longitudinal errors on the Jackson-Klamath Winter Trails Guide that went on sale in December 2006.

The problem with the Forest Service and BLM map is that both the north and south halves contain correct and incorrect longitudes. The incorrect longitudes are off by one degree, while the minutes are all correct. This one degree error translates into approximately six miles on the ground.

Maps are an important tool for the recreating public. Other than the longitudinal errors, the map provides useful information for winter visitors and will continue to be offered with the correction sheet until replaced. The Forest Service and BLM are taking appropriate action to correct the map and will be issuing new maps next winter season. Until then, the land managing agencies are asking the public to stop by the office where they purchased the map to obtain a copy of a correction sheet.
