As UTEP’s men’s basketball team gears up for Thursday’s NCAA tournament game versus the Maryland Terrapins, the competition is also heating up on Capitol Hill.
To celebrate their home teams’ first-round bid against each other, Congressman Silvestre Reyes, D-El Paso, has challenged Congressman Steny Hoyer, D-MD, to an inter-office lunch wager. Regional food must be provided by the losing team.
“I’m looking forward to my crabcakes,” said Reyes. “The Miners have had a tremendous turnaround season. Maryland’s a tough team, but we’ve got the drive for victory. UTEP’s players and coaches deserve this game and El Paso is ecstatic about the tournament. I can’t wait for the game on Thursday. The Terps better be ready for us. I have confidence that UTEP will pull out a win,” said Reyes.
“After the Terps’ huge win over powerhouse Duke in the ACC Championship, I think the Terps are on a roll,” said Hoyer. “I congratulate El Paso on their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1992, but I still am looking forward to munching on some delicious Mexican food when Maryland wins this week.”
