Braley Named to Key Health Policy Subcommittee PDF Print
Today, Rep. Braley was named to the Health Policy subcommittee on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.  Rep. Braley will also sit on the Oversight and Commerce Subcommittees.  Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) was named to three subcommittees of the House Energy and Commerce Committee: the Health Subcommittee; the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee; and the Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection Subcommittee.

The Health Subcommittee has jurisdiction over healthcare in the United States, including public health, hospital construction, Medicaid, and national health insurance.  This committee will play a key role in the upcoming debate over healthcare reform, which President-elect Barack Obama has outlined as a key priority of his new administration.

The Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection Subcommittee has jurisdiction over all interstate and foreign commerce, including trade matters; product safety; and other commercial activity.

The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee is responsible for oversight of all agencies, departments, and programs within the Energy and Commerce Committee's jurisdiction.  Braley served on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee during his first term in Congress.

"I'm excited to be named to these important subcommittees," Braley said.  "Healthcare will be one of the most important issues that Congress deals with this year, and I look forward to playing a significant part in the debate.  I also look forward to continuing vigorous oversight of government agencies and corporations who aren't acting in taxpayers' best interests.

"My committee and subcommittee assignments will allow me to more effectively promote job creation, the expansion of renewable energy, and oversight for Iowa taxpayers."
