Functional Description The Child Welfare program funds Child Abuse and Neglect Services and Family Preservation Services. Client applications are taken on an intake form and processed by Social Services Division staff. Information is entered into a stand-alone PC system for Child Welfare tracking and reporting. Clients receive appropriate services including counseling and shelter. A hotline is available for reporting suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect. A DHSS psychologist provides training for staff and assists with counseling services. The DHSS operates a shelter for clients who need emergency shelter services.
