Functional Description |
The State of Georgia Child Welfare program is administered by the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) of the Georgia Department of Human Resources. The Social Services Section of DFCS is responsible for program administration for the Child Welfare program, including policy and procedure development and guidance for the program. Georgia?s Child Welfare program is state administered and county operated. The delivery of child welfare services, including intake, investigations, placement, and case management, is the responsibility of 159 County Directors and their staff. These County Directors report to 13 Field Coordinators who report to the Section Director for the Field Coordination Section. Organizationally, the Directors of the Field Coordination Section and the Social Services Section both report directly to the Deputy Director of DFCS. The adoptions program is administered by the Office of Adoptions and reports directly to the DHR Commissioner?s Office. County DFCS staff operate the adoptions program in the field with program oversight provided by 13 regional adoptions coordinators. |

As of the date of the assessment, SMI was rolling out an upgrade for IDS to convert to a web-based solution with a target date for completion of 10/1/99. SMI had also converted 51 of the 159 counties from ALTOS/NEWSYS to SMILE with the remainder to be converted by 11/1/99. |
