Statement of Compliance With The Federal Aviation Regulations
This action is part of the FAA's Fuel Tank Flammability Safety rulemaking. The rulemaking requires the manufacturers to provide a report to the FAA every six months for up to 5 years after the flammability reduction system is incorporated into the fleet. The safety benefits of the flammability reduction system is highly dependent upon the reliability of the system. Therefore the data collection is needed to assure system performance meets that predicted at the time of certification. There is no requirement for the operators to provide data to the FAA. Manufactures will arrange for data collection from the operators through business agreements and their normal data sharing processes. This proposal would require that a program to preclude the existence of Widespread Fatigue Damage (WFD) be incorporated in the FAA-approved maintenance or inspection program of each operator of transport category airplanes with a maximum gross takeoff weight greater than 75,000 pounds.
