25 May 2002Dr. Bruce Hammock is the Program Director of the NIEHS Superfund Basic Research Program, University of California, Davis, and is a Distinguished Professor of Entomology & Cancer Research. Raised in Arkansas, he attended LSU as an undergraduate and received his Ph.D. in Entomology at the University of California, Berkeley. The Superfund Basic Research Program is conducting basic and applied research to assess and understand the effects on human health resulting from exposure to hazardous substances. Dr Hammock is engaged in the development, validation and implementation of rapid immunochemical-based methods for the analysis of hazardous materials and their breakdown products as biomarkers of human exposure. He and his team are developing and validating mechanistically-based cell and in vitro bioassays/biomarkers for chemical detection and screening.
