DOE's State Energy Program (SEP) provides grants to the states to design and carry out their own renewable energy and energy efficiency programs.
Funding from the State Energy Program goes to state energy offices in all states and U.S. territories. SEP projects are managed by state energy offices, not by DOE directly. The DOE Golden Field Office in Golden, Colorado, and the National Energy Technology Laboratory in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania organize the day-to-day business of the State Energy Program and interact with energy offices and other state officials.
DOE also provides quick turn-around technical assistance to state and local officials to help them with their renewable energy and energy efficiency programs through the Technical Assistance Project.
The results from the State Energy Program reflect the work of state energy offices. The outcome is an innovative deployment of new energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies across the geographic panorama of the United States and its territories.
