System Requirements

An ECF password issued by this Court is required to file electronically.  To request an Electronic Case Filing (ECF) account from the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, complete the registration form and submit the form on-line OR print a hard copy, sign it, and present it to the Clerk’s office at the address provided.  

In order to complete the registration form on-line, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader software. (Although the registration form is not part of the CM\ECF application, it is in pdf format which requires the Adobe Acrobat software.)

Edit and set the preferences of the Adobe Reader:

• "Display PDF in Browser" needs to be CHECKED

• "Allow Fast Web View" needs to be UNCHECKED

The registration form will open inside the window of your browser.  For visitors using an older version of Netscape, such as version 4.7, a dialog box may prompt you to open or save the form.  Please choose to open it, and then proceed to register, if you want to submit the form electronically.

Prerequisites of Registration

An attorney seeking to file documents electronically must meet one of the following prerequisites:

(1.) Admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York

(2.) Admitted to practice pro hac vice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York

(3.) Authorized to represent the United States of America

Registration Tip

When registering more than one attorney, complete the registration form, then click submit. After both the verification and confirmation pages are displayed , select the 'back' symbol on the browser window twice. The completed registration form is available, now just edit the data, entering the data that is applicable for the second attorney, then click submit again. Do not re-enter the common data, such as firm info, but please remember to enter the correct bar code and date of admission, etc. Repeat for each additional attorney.
