Pursuant to its authorization in March 2007, legislation is not referred to the Select Committee.  Instead, the Select Committee engages in oversight and educational activities through hearings, reports, briefings and other means intended to highlight the importance of adopting policies which reduce our dependence on foreign oil and our emissions of global warming pollution.  In addition, each Member of the Select Committee sits on legislative committees which process legislation and amendments affecting energy independence and global warming issues in other committees.

A Portal to Other Legislative Committees


In addition to highlighting the Select Committees own work, it is the goal this website to serve as a portal to legislative information and action in Congress regarding climate change and energy security matters. The sweeping Energy Bill passed by the House in August for example, included work by eleven different committees. The testimony received by the Select Committee and the legislative committees is an extensive and informative record, and we want to facilitate the public’s access to that information.  So stop back for updates on testimony and legislative progress.
