Biography:

Dr. Arlene Garrison serves as a Program Director in the EPSCoR office.  Her major EPSCoR responsibility is co-funding, and she manages the RII awards for a few of the EPSCoR states. She is employed via an IPA arrangement with the University of Tennessee where she retains her title of Associate Vice President for Research. During her career she has held a number of different positions with UT, including Director of MCEC, an NSF Industry/University Collaborative Research Center. She also held the position of Licensing Executive with the University of Tennessee Research Foundation, the organization that markets inventions for university faculty. She is Alternate Councilor for the East Tennessee Section of the American Chemical Society and has been a member of the ACS Women's Chemist Committee. Garrison currently serves on the Board of the Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair. In recognition of her volunteer work in science outreach to pre-college students, Garrison was one of the 10,000 Olympic Torch Bearers as the torch moved to the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.  She has also served as the University of Tennessee's representative to the Tennessee Economic Council on Women.
