Margaret Rick, M.D. Overview The Hematology Research Training Fellowship is a two-year program providing experience in laboratory and/or clinical investigation under the direction of a Senior Staff Hematologist. The Fellowship also offers opportunities in clinical hematology consultation, bone marrow interpretation, and the clinical hematology laboratory. Research Training Program The fellow selects a project in an area of senior staff interest and expertise. The intent is for the fellow to work independently in conducting his/her research, while having continuous access to guidance from his/her supervisor and other personnel. Current topics of research in the Hematology Service are in areas of thrombosis and hemostasis, including hypercoagulability, fibrinolysis, von Willebrand disease, hemophilia, platelet function, and hematopathology. Methodologies are drawn from biochemistry, molecular genetics, immunology, and cell physiology. Applicant Requirements Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree. Preference is given to individuals who are 2 - 4 years beyond the doctoral degree and who have training in internal medicine and clinical hematology. One fellowship is available each year. Applications are closed on October 1 for the position beginning the following July 1.
