FEC FILES SUIT ALLEGING PROHIBITED CORPORATE CONTRIBUTIONS

WASHINGTON -- The Federal Election Commission (FEC) filed suit today in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division, against Constantine Kalogianis, Kalogianis for Congress, Inc., Patricia Jones as treasurer of Kalogianis for Congress, Kalogianis and Associates, P.A., and Liberty Title Agency, Inc.

The suit alleges that during the 2002 campaign Mr. Kalogianis and his campaign committee in the 9th Congressional District in Florida accepted tens of thousands of dollars in prohibited contributions from two corporations Mr. Kalogianis owned.  The suit also alleges that the campaign committee failed to accurately disclose the loans that made up these prohibited contributions.

The suit is case no. 8:06CV68-T-23-EAJ and has been assigned to Judge Steven Merryday and Magistrate Elizabeth Jenkins

Under 2 U.S.C. §437g, the FEC may file suit in federal district court after it has found probable cause to believe that a violation of the law has occurred and is unable to conciliate.
