May 23, 2008, COOKEVILLE – A $525,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development loan will help Bangham Utility District to replace defective water lines and minimize water loss in Jackson, Overton and Putnam counties, U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon announced.
“This project will not only ensure that residents will continue to have safe drinking water, but will also aid their economic development efforts by demonstrating to industry that the necessary infrastructure is in place,” Gordon said.
Bangham Utility District will use the funds to replace plastic water service lines with new copper lines.
“In order to save customers money, we are implementing a rehabilitation program on our service lines from the street to the meter to lower our leak losses,” said Marty Woolbright, president and commissioner of Bangham Utility District.
Bangham Utility District is located in Cookeville, which is a Tennessee Rural Development Special Interest Community.
“Better conservation of drinking water resources helps control cost and provides more capacity to meet growing demand,” said Rural Development State Director Mary Ruth Tackett. “We appreciate the support of Congressman Bart Gordon and all our congressional delegation for making sure Rural Development has the financial resources Bangham Utility District needs to improve water services for families and businesses.”
