November 7, 2007, WASHINGTON – On Monday, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a measure that includes $250,000 for county officials to add new materials and technology to the Millard Oakley Public Library, announced U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon.
“The new library has been a tremendous asset for Overton County, but books, computers and other materials come at a cost,” said Gordon. “This funding will enhance the library’s current materials and allow the library to provide even more services to county residents.”
County Mayor Kenneth Copeland said the county would use the funds for materials, technology and programs at the library.
“Our budget is tight, so we appreciate these federal funds coming back to the county,” said Copeland. “It’s taken a lot of cooperation to make this a nice facility, and this funding will help get shelving, equipment and other educational materials for county residents to enjoy.”
The funding is included in a compromise of House and Senate versions of an annual funding bill for the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Senate is expected to approve the conference report later this week, and it will then go to the president for his signature.
