October 3, 2007, LAFAYETTE – An $80,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant will help Macon County to repair several residents’ homes, U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon announced.
“The Housing Preservation Grant program helps those who would not otherwise be able to make necessary repairs on their homes,” Gordon said. “This program is particularly helpful to rural areas, like Macon County.”
Macon County was initially approved to repair 13 homes with $500,000 provided by the Tennessee Housing Development Agency. The federal grant will allow the county to repair seven more, bringing the total to 20 homes, according to Macon County Mayor Shelvy Linville.
“We’re delighted we were able to get the grant and very pleased that we can help those people who desperately need help,” Linville said.
Rural Development State Director Mary Ruth Tackett added, “For many of us, being able to go to sleep each night, safe and sound in our own home is something easily taken for granted. Partnering with leaders like Congressman Gordon, Mayor Linville and [Upper Cumberland Development District Executive Director] Wendy Askins make it possible for Rural Development to help families in rural areas maintain that dream they have worked so hard to achieve.”
