August 21, 2007, LEBANON – A $19,367 U.S. Department of Justice grant will enable the Lebanon Police Department to add more manpower to high crime areas, U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon announced.
“You can drive down Highway 231 or Hartmann Drive and see how rapidly the City of Lebanon is growing. Keeping enough officers on the streets is necessary to preserve the quality of life the city’s residents currently enjoy,” Gordon said.
Lebanon Police Department Chief Scott Bowen said the funds will be used to pay for 650 hours of manpower.
“We’re going to use this for additional overtime to put additional officers in high crime areas,” said Bowen. “We are fortunate to get this. This is really going to help us out.”
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support and information systems.
