This Internet release of Vital Statistics of the United States, 2002, Volume I, Natality, includes a total of 32 tables. Production of a CD-ROM containing these tables is currently in process.  Comparable tables for the 1994 through 2001 data years were published in Vital Statistics of the United States, 1994, Volume I, Natality, Vital Statistics of the United States, 1995, Volume I, Natality, Vital Statistics of the United States, 1996, Volume I, Natality, Vital Statistics of the United States, 1997, Volume I, Natality, Vital Statistics of the United States, 1998, Volume I, Natality, Vital Statistics of the United States, 1999, Volume I, Natality, Vital Statistics of the United States, 2000, Volume I, Natality, and Vital Statistics of the United States, 2001, Volume 1, Natality available on CD-ROM and on the Internet. The 2002 NatalityTechnical Appendix describes the data contained in the tables in this Internet release.

The birth and fertility rates contained in Vital Statistics of the United States, 2002, Volume I, Natality, may differ from rates contained in previously published reports in the series. Those rates that were based on postcensal population estimates consistent with the 1990 census, where as rates in this report for 1992-1999 are based on intercensal estimates. In addition, Tables 1-30 through 1-37 published in earlier years (which contain cohort-fertility rates) are currently being revised to incorporate the 2000 postcensal estimates and are not available at this time.  These tables will be available at this Website in the near future.
