The Rules Committee is planning to meet this week to grant a rule which may limit the amendment process on H.R. 2563, the Bipartisan Patient Protection Act of 2001.

Any Member wishing to offer an amendment should submit 55 copies of the amendment and one copy of a very brief explanation of the amendment to the Rules Committee in room H-312 of the Capitol no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31th. A copy of the form used to submit amendments to the Rules Committee is on the back of this letter. Amendments should be drafted to the text of H.R. 2563 as introduced in the House.

Members should use the Office of Legislative Counsel to ensure that their amendments are properly drafted and should check with the Office of the Parliamentarian to be certain their amendments comply with the rules of the House.
