AMENDMENT PROCESS FOR H.R. 333 - BANKRUPTCY ABUSE PREVENTION AND CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT OF 2001

The Rules Committee is expected to meet next week to grant a rule which may limit amendments to H.R. 333, the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2001. The Committee on the Judiciary ordered reported H.R. 333 on Wednesday, February 14th, and is expected to file its report on Monday, February 26th.

Any Member contemplating an amendment to H.R. 333 should submit 55 copies of the amendment and one copy of a brief explanation to the Rules Committee no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27th. A copy of the form used to submit amendments to the Rules Committee is on the back of this letter. The Rules Committee office is in H-312 of the Capitol.

Amendments should be drafted to the bill as reported by the Committee on the Judiciary, which is available at the Committee and on its web site. Members should use the Office of Legislative Counsel to ensure that their amendments are properly drafted and should check with the Office of the Parliamentarian to be certain their amendments comply with the Rules of the House.
