As part of an outreach effort to introduce and attract professionals to
the environmental field, AQMD has for the past several years offered area
college students a limited number of temporary part-time employment
opportunities at its Diamond Bar headquarters. Past jobs have been in our
state-of-the-art analytical chemistry laboratory, in public affairs (providing
support for town hall meetings in the communities we serve, preparing outreach
materials, and addressing community concerns), in accounting, and in web site
management and computer hardware/software support.
Although jobs are advertised and hiring is done through the Cal Poly Pomona
Foundation and its Cooperative Education (Co-op) program, these opportunities
are available to students throughout the agency’s four-county area. Students are
hired as Cal Poly Foundation employees and work under a contract between the Cal
Poly Foundation and AQMD. Job announcements are posted on the Co-op’s home page
and are distributed to career centers and relevant departments in approximately
30 colleges and universities in the Southern California area.
