Background

The Agricultural Assistance Program provides funding for up to 85% of the eligible costs of replacing diesel agricultural engines (such as those used for irrigation pumps) with electric motors or natural gas engines that meet new emission requirements.  The primary purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance to agricultural operations to comply with AQMD Rule 1110.2, which sets emission limits on stationary engines.

AAP funding is intended for:

  • Agricultural engines of greater than 50 hp that are required to comply with AQMD Rule 1110.2 emission limits by January 1, 2010.
  • Stationary non-emergency engines that are permanently installed in one location, or portable engines that operate in one location for the full season of a seasonal operation.

A total of $1 million dollars in funding is available to agricultural operations on a first-come, first-served basis until May 29, 2009.  All funded projects must be completed before January 1, 2010.
