NATIONAL VACCINE ADVISORY COMMITTEE Resolution: Vaccination Coverage Among Adults May 8, 1998 WHEREAS, vaccine preventable diseases continue to occur in our nation's adolescents and result in unnecessary morbidity and mortality, and WHEREAS, adolescent vaccination rates remain low especially for hepatitis B and varicella vaccine while childhood vaccination rates are at an all time high, and WHEREAS, there are multiple barriers to improving adolescent vaccination rates, including cost and lack of routine health care, and WHEREAS, there is a need to target those adolescents at high risk of undervaccination, therefore Be it resolved that: NVAC recommends the assessment, evaluation and documentation of existing strategies to improve adolescent vaccination coverage, and NVAC recommends that the Assistant Secretary for Health seek new resources to improve vaccination coverage among adolescents. |
