Laurine E. Tuleja
Hearing Board Vice Chair
Attorney Member

Laurine Tuleja joined the Hearing Board in July 1997 as the Attorney Member. She came to the Hearing Board after practicing environmental law for five and a half years in the Los Angeles office of Sidley & Austin.

Ms. Tuleja graduated from Harvard University in 1979 with an A.B. in History and Science. She then moved to Washington, D.C., working four years as a legislative assistant for two members of the House of Representatives and one year as a free lance writer, covering small businesses and community organizations for a local newspaper.

She came to California to attend Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving her J.D. in 1990. While in law school, she served as an Executive Editor of the California Law Review and as a member of the High Technology Law Journal. Following law school, she spent a year as a law clerk to the Honorable Alfred T. Goodwin of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Ms. Tuleja is an active member of the National Association of Hearing Officials where she has served as Conference Registrar, and as an alternate Board Member, and currently serves as a member of the Certification Committee. She received NAHO's certification as a Certified Hearing Official in 1999. Ms. Tuleja served for five years as a member of the Legislation Committee of the California State Bar’s Environmental Law Section, which reviews and comments on proposed California environmental legislation. Her community activities include volunteering as a tutor at the Harambee Center, a non-profit organization serving low income children. She is also active in her church, where she is a member of the Church Council and sings in the choir.
